Nickel Aluminum Alloy
Nickel-aluminum alloys, also known as nickel-aluminides or NiAl, are intermetallic compounds composed of nickel and aluminum. These alloys exhibit a unique combination of properties, making them interesting for certain applications.
Application
Aluminum-nickel alloy can be used:
- For the synthesis of Raney nickel catalyst to be used as an alkylating agent.
- For the reduction of nitriles, nitro compounds, and oximes to primary amines.[1]
- For the conversion of carbonyl compounds to hydrocarbons.[2]
- As a reducing agent to convert Ar-X derivatives to Ar-H compounds.
- For the synthesis of alloyed skeletal Ni catalysts.
- Ni-Al alloys find applications in high-temperature environments such as aerospace components, gas turbine engines, and other applications where a combination of high-temperature strength and oxidation resistance is essential.
